The first segment of this session will show what has been learned from audit data over the first two cycles, including implementation trends; growth in audit uptake; distribution across facility types and geography; and trends in compliance and corrective action. The second segment will provide an opportunity to discuss how agencies and facilities can effectively collect, maintain, and provide relevant data to auditors. Since many facilities are still taking steps toward Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) implementation, the presenters will provide tools and techniques that can be used to manage records and data relevant to the audit process, leading to better ways to manage PREA implementation efforts and facilitating a smoother auditing process.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the history of PREA audits, trends in implementation, and trends in conducting audits, including the geography of jail audits across the U.S.
2. Understand tips and tools for PREA data collection and retention in your jail.
3. Illustrate how good internal reporting and tracking systems can help support PREA implementation and provide a strong foundation for agencies to demonstrate compliance in practice during certification audits.

Presenters:

Scott Catey, Associate Director, National PREA Resource Center, Washington, D.C.
