Jail Death Review & Investigations: Best Practices
Lead Instructor:  Linda L. Bryant, Esquire
Performing jail death reviews is a vital responsibility. A solid jail death review should reveal what was done right, what was done wrong, and what could have been done better. A poorly handled or poorly organized jail death review can cloud the truth and lead to confusion. Because of the importance of what jail officers do—and the constitutional principles involved—those involved in jail death reviews need to prepare their reports with the expectation that involved stakeholders (jail agencies, jail oversight organizations, citizen groups, local and State police, district attorneys, civil rights groups, plaintiff’s attorneys, Department of Justice, the media, and elected officials) will read these reports—as well as the State and Federal courts at some point. This two day seminar with national experts on jail deaths will train you how to do your own review in a manner that withstands scrutiny and serves to build community trust.
