Managing and Resolving Conflict

Conflict in the workplace is as natural as enjoying your morning coffee or favorite power beverage. Yet we often view conflict as bad, destructive and avoid it at all costs. Whether you are on the front line, or are a supervisor or executive at your jail, an inability to manage conflict can have a devastating impact within the jail culture.  This training workshop will teach us how to embrace conflict and skillfully manage and resolve conflict.  It will help us to successfully maneuver difficult conversations with peers, supervisors and direct reports.  Participants will learn about the different styles we each use to address and manage conflict.  Participants will learn and practice various communication techniques and skills to be proactive at recognizing and addressing conflict.  Participant will learn how to use conflict as an opportunity to develop and maintain effective and high performing professional relationships, all to the benefit of maintaining a safe and secure jail for staff and detainees.  This training will be highly interactive with opportunities to learn and practice effective conflict resolution and management skills.

Training Performance Objectives
  •  Define and appreciate the five conflict management styles including the pros and cons when using those styles when addressing a conflict.
  • Identify your own preferred conflict management style including both the limitations and advantages of using that style.
  • Demonstrate the use of active listening as a proactive means to both address conflict and prevent the destructive results of unmanaged conflict.
  • Explain and demonstrate the use of effective feedback and constructive criticism skills to effective resolve workplace conflicts.
  • Demonstrate how resolving and managing conflict has a positive effect within our respective teams, the jail culture and increasing safety, security and overall performance within our jails.
