What's Your Story?

Do you have a story to share? An experience that can help others? For every success, for every failure,
for every lesson learned, there is a story to be told.

Innovative approaches and solutions that address operations, staff training and retention, inmate
programming, healthcare, and other equally important issues are being developed in jail facilities across the Nation.

Now is the time to consider penning an article in American Jails magazine to tell your story… how you went
from having a problem to how you found a solution. Your experiences and expertise can greatly assist
individual agencies in particular, and the field of local corrections in general.

For more information about submitting an article or guest editorial, please review our submission guidelines here, or click here to e-mail Sandra Lunsford.

In 2019, the American Jail Association recognized the need for an organizational focus on gender equity nationwide and made Gender Equity one of its standing committees. The goal of the committee is to
establish standards, practices, training and programs for jails across America. It also developed this page that AJA hopes will serve as a resource for those addressing Gender Equity in their agencies.

Resources for Jail Leaders, Chaplains

Many senior- and mid-level jail administrators will reach retirement age within the next few years. Without adequate preparation, jails will struggle with a rapid loss of experienced leaders in the not-too-distant future. The challenge facing jails today is to discover new ways to retain and groom experienced employees for leading jails tomorrow and to recruit new employees with high qualifications as the jail leaders of the future.

The resources on this site are dedicated to continued growth in professionalization and effectiveness of jail leadership both now and in the future.
